Time Management

"Don't wait. The time will never be just right. "

One always has time enough, if one will apply it well.
Many students discover the need to develop their time management skills when they arrive at college. Unlike high school where teachers frequently structured the assignments and classes filled the day, in college, students will have less in-class time, more outside of class work, and a great deal of freedom and flexibility. Keys to successful time management include:
  • Self knowledge and goals
  • Developing and maintaining a personal, flexible schedule

Class Activity

Assessing Your Time Management Skills
1. I like my watch to be set a few minutes ahead of the correct time.
1. I tend to arrive at most functions at least 5 minutes early.
1. In the course of my daily activities I tend to take my time.
1. In high school I almost always completed my daily assignments.
2. I sometimes spend more than 15 minutes at a time on the telephone.
2. I like to finish assignments and reports exactly on their due dates.
1. I rarely spend more than an hour eating a meal.
1. I never watch more than 1 1/2 hours of TV on a weeknight.
2. I sometimes spend more than an hour surfing the Web or taking on a chat line at one time.
Now add up the numbers that you have circled_12_
The higher the total, the more you need to work on time management skills now that you are in college. If your total is over 10, you probably need to adjust your priorities and begin to take more responsibility for managing your time.
According to author's assessing the total is over 10 by 2. So author needs  to adjust priorities and take responsibility to minimize that.

Actions taken by author to reduce the wasting time
  • Reduce the time spending with the phone.
  • Do the assignments a little time before the submission.
The author thinks that this will work out for the future and today itself started doing this.

Meals                                          5.25 hours
Chores                                        5 hours
Exercise & playing                       3 hours
Transportation                            25 hours
Work                                           4 hours
Family                                         5 hours
Classes                                      28 hours
Studying                                    30 hours
Wash and stuff                             7 hours
Internet, chatting etc                     7 hours
Total                                        161.25 hours = 95.98 %

Interpreting the authors choices
  • Opportunity, energetic, lively, friendly, effective
This shows that author have knowledge on prioritizing the work according to a time period.

Procrastination
Procrastination is very important to everybody as most of the humans don't know from where to start on a task whether its desired/ not (Stopprocrastinatinginfo., 2009). Due to this people worry that they cannot complete a task successfully as there is no enough time to finish the work and says if there is another hour its best like wise (Stopprocrastinatinginfo., 2009). Often a person's anxiety about a task leads them to avoid it.
Causes of procrastination
effective-time-management-strategies (2012)

"Until you value yourself, you will not value your time.
Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it." (effective-time-management-strategies, 2012) .This is a saying of Scott Peck about the procrastination.

Taking control
The following are authors control to save time.
  1. All the assignments are ready for one day before the submission.
  2. Come to the class on time or before 15 minites
  3. Respond to the alarm which is ringing
  4. Completely the degree in 2014 as expected.
  5. Attend to the all lecturers
  6. Answer the phone or not
  7. Helping to somebody who is not very close to me
  8. Do the assignments by starting the research part
  9. Applying for a job.
  10. Avoid traffic and come early as possible
Author is attempting to take more control on the actions which are mentioned above. Most of them are complete control but some are fairly control. So anyway author is trying to full control all the actions and make the life much more better than present.

80-20 Rule
A rule of thumb that states that 80% of outcomes can be attributed to 20% of the causes for a given activity (Contactme., 2011). In business context, the 80-20 rule is used to help managers identify problems ( Koch R., 2004) and determine which operating factors are most important and should receive the most attention based on an efficient use of resources (80-20presentationrule, 2008).
Searchenginepeople(2012)

Accordning to entrepreneurs-journey  (2006), the principle was suggested by Joseph M. Juran. It was named after the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who observed that 80% of income in Italy was received by 20% of the Italian population ( entrepreneurs-journey , 2006).

By looking at author's daily activities author can identify  many situations where this 80/20 Rule applies. Author probably make most of my phone calls to a very small amount of the people, author have numbers for.
Author spend a large amount of own money on food and fashion as well as other stuff. There is a good chance that author spend most of author's time with only a few people from the entire pool of people author know.

Now author is applying this 80/20 Rule applies to author's life and how author  have used the concept, although not always deliberately – it’s just the way author construct own life-to improve the efficiency of author's output and enhance own overall lifestyle.

You're in your 80 percent if the following statements ring true:
  • You're working on tasks other people want you to, but you have no investment in them.
  • You're frequently working on tasks labeled “urgent.”
  • You're spending time on tasks you are not usually good at doing.
  • Activities are taking a lot longer than you expected.
  • You find yourself complaining all the time.

You're in your 20 percent if:
  • You're engaged in activities that advance your overall purpose in life.
  • You're doing things you have always wanted to do or that make you feel good about yourself.
  • You're working on tasks you don't like, but you're doing them knowing they relate to the bigger picture.
  • You're hiring people to do the tasks you are not good at or don't like doing.
  • You're smiling.

How can you apply 80-20 Rule for the life?

When you start to analyzing and breakdown life into elements it’s very easy to apply this 80-20 rule. Once happiness determinants have been identified to make everything work in harmony and avoid wasting time on those 80% activities that produce little satisfaction for you. This helps to produce  the best outcomes for you.

And i would like 2 sayor give some tips abt the value of time management......

Time management is the act or process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity.

Time management may be aided by a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals complying with a due date.

This set encompasses a wide scope of activities, and these include planning, allocating, setting goals, delegation, analysis of time spent, monitoring, organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing. Initially, time management referred to just business or work activities, but eventually the term broadened to include personal activities as well.

  5. As i know you are a good student who has the ability to manage the time for any activity. Especially you are coming to the class before time and ready for the lecture. So i appreciate your this valuable principle. :P :D

And also i would like to say : Clocks slay time... time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life.
    Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
