Promote family bonds
Another significant aspect of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year is to respect the elders while
build up stronger relationships with neighbors, friends, relatives. Generally, visiting relations
and friends and exchanging presents, greeting them with a bundle of betel is
the order of the day.
Betel is regarded as a valuable herbal plant with many medical standards.
The value of betel is mainly appreciated in Buddhist literature. Building up
confidence, love, friendship and hope among elders, relations and friends plays
a great role in achieving mental, physical and social happiness are the secrets of the betel Exchanging
sheaves of betel and paying respect to elders brings and builds up new feelings, bonds in the new year time by forgetting all the old angry.People of Sri Lanka love to visit their relatives and friends full of sweets like kavum, kokos and other various kinds of gifts.
Going to work
This is very famous among the Sinhalese and Tamils. The festivities come to an end with the auspicious time for going to work. In this auspicious hour, an elder anoints the young with herbal oil. Sinhalese also set an auspicious time to go to work. This is held on the 18th of April 2012 at 6.24A.M. facing to North direction by wearing white color cloth.
