How to Spend Holidays Effectively?


Manage Your Stress in College/University Life
Many students have been going through a stressful period, when they are facing assignment deadlines, examination schedule or personal problems. It is especially heavy when you feel all of the problems knocking your door together.

Once I was a college student, I had to sit for in course exam and also to prepare for the presentation. Few assignments are being rushed in the same week with deadline. There was no one where I can ask for help as same thing for all batch students.  Luckily, I could handle them well. Only when I truly felt the stress obstacle is when I had to take for the exam at the same time, which was a continuous one day exam in two particular subjects. But I successful achieved success at the end.

Have Fun and Stop being Anxious in the holidays
To others I may seem like a quiet person, but the truth is I’m doing a lot of thinking inside, there are so much going on in my mind. I personally like for reading quotes, books, newspapers as well as work on the assignments and presentations while blogging.
Well, when the assignment is given to my hand, on that day I am planning to start the work. And as you all know I need to done it before the deadline and next to enjoy the life.  In the last semester than the first semester I and one of my friends got stress with the assignments as well as presentations and less sleep. But I didn’t see this stress for most of the students. Why? Because they are giving the assignment to do another person get learning sometimes how he/she did as there is viva if not nope. But this is sorry for him/her in the future when he/she applies to the job. Even though I got stressed I achieved success in the life by getting good grades.
Some students can have fun while doing the exams too by sharing the papers. But according to me it’s incorrect. I study hard before the exam and write the paper by memorizing or applying the learned things at class. If you are walking to an interview stop getting stress. Go normally do it properly; you’ll get an outcome better than expected.
Although I have stressed I have planned to use my holidays effectively. I planned to go for tours on tourist attractions and enjoy the life there with families and to relax the mind and body. As soon as I go back to college, I’ll get super busy with next semester projects and placement procedures. Again stress and the same sad which I felt earlier is coming for me. So, I plan to do something useful in this holiday.
Now I've accomplished majority of my goals for the next semester. I can now solve the problem which will be meeting in future for me. Although I am busy with work in the computer I planned to get rid of it for 30 minutes from the starting point o reduce the stress for my eyes. And then, I plan to brush up my knowledge on the Maths, IT, Business for my placements.
According to this still I am spending my time effectively by reducing the stress and having fun in the life.

Spend the holidays ecstatically
First thing would be to chill out and cool your brain! Catch up with your relatives and old buddies to show them that you are still alive. Then, maybe work together with one or more friends on some work. Personally, you would do things for brush up on key skills.
There are so many choices to spend the holidays. But here let’s take seashores. Beaches are perfect for summer holidays as they offer the sun, warmth, water, sand, sandcastles for the children and romantic opportunities. You can sink your toes into the sand or take surfing lessons or charter a sail boat for added excitement and adventure. It is the perfect place for water sports and relaxing.
Adults find that traveling can actually refresh their minds and be more prepared for college or a career once they return. The experience of going out opens their eyes and increases the knowledge. They believe the experience is a precious treasure in lifetime that can be use all throughout their own life.
In the holidays most of the students spend time for sleeping, surfing on the internet or watching movies as they have got stressed. You can also volunteer for an organization with a worthy cause for the people. Here you will learn lot of things especially on developing personal while working with new friends. You can also join to some friends and start sport events to relax the body by reducing the weight.
  
Spend your holidays of the university effectively
The time spent at university is precious, but the long months between studying can be highly rewarding.
  • Don’t let time to be waste – although the temptation will be there to spend 3 months on vacation, encourage students to use it to develop, enhance and improve the content of their CV. And also to relax the mind to reduce stress of work load in the mind.
  • Help to set up some work shadowing – this will give student greater awareness of potential careers that interest them. Options are to go down the formal route to see if they can shadow one of your friends if it’s of interest
  • Encourage students to research internships and placements – the majority of placements take place in the second year of study but it’s a good idea to enter to the competitive world
  • Volunteering– this doesn’t have to relate to the degree, future career but it helps to develop transferable skills such as time management skills, communication and team work
  • Encourage going along to an insight day or week – large companies offer these usually during the Easter and summer vacation. As you would expect, they will offer student insight into working life for a particular sector, company and will help to meet individual
If students are into their Second Year, applying for a summer internship is highly recommended:
·         Often open to students from any degree discipline although they are highly competitive, and the application process, although challenging, is fantastic experience for later life
·         They tend to be offered to students between their one before the last and final year, and are used by employers to get to know students who they will consider for graduate jobs
·         They are seen as a very important stepping stone for many within this crowded market!

Few suggestions on spending your holidays effectively

Prepare for our major examinations – Those who are going to sit for the examinations should spend the holidays to prepare for them. Revise all the topics covered in the lessons besides studying the topics covered in next year syllabuses ahead. Main thing is to try your best to understand a topic before it’s taught in the class. When the teacher comes to the particular part of the lesson where you have read and understood, it would be like a revision for you. That way, revision would be made so much easier as you have gone through the information twice without you knowing it or feeling the stress.

Travel to interesting tourist attractions – Travel locally or abroad will certainly relax and refresh the tired minds and souls. Sri Lanka has a lot to offer with its rich sights, sounds and colors. There are plenty of ideal tourist attractions in like Jaffa, Trincomalee, Kany, Nuwara- Eliya, Hatton etc and also there are golden sandy beaches around Sri Lanka. Travelling can open our eyes to various things around the world and add memorable experiences to lives.

Work as a part-timer – Working as a part-timer to those who have sat for major examination is important because you will have approximately six months before you further your studies to form six or university next year. Since examination results will be out you can gain a lot of working experiences and money by working while waiting for the results. The working experiences will be an edge for you, be it in your scholarship interviews or future job applications.

Take some courses up – There are courses, classes specially nominated for the students during the school holidays to choose from. For instance, Computer based classes, English courses, Driving courses etc. These courses are essential if you want to improve yourselves and learn new skills.

Essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple

Mathematics is the study of measure, configuration, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns and formulate new conjecture. Through the use of concept and logical reasoning, mathematics developed from counting, calculation, measurement, and the systematic study of the shapes and movement of physical objects. Mathematics is not like a game whose tasks are determined by subjectively fixed rules.
Mathematics is used throughout the world as an essential tool in many fields including science, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences. Applied mathematics, the branch of mathematics concerned with application of mathematical knowledge to other fields, inspires and makes use of new mathematical discoveries, which has led to the development of entirely new mathematical disciplines, such as statistics.The word "mathematics" comes from the Greek language, which is known as “what one learns, what one gets to know”.

  • Quantity - Measure

The study of quantity starts with numbers (natural numbers and integers and arithmetical operations on them).

  •     Structure

      Many mathematical objects, such as sets of numbers and functions, exhibit internal structure as a consequence of operations or relations that are defined on the set.
  •     Space

     The study of space creates with geometry – in particular, Euclidean geometry. Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics.
·         Analytic geometry, Differential geometry, Algebraic geometry - Quantity and Space  
·         Convex geometry, discrete geometry  - Solve problems in number theory and Functional Analysis 
·         Differential geometry - Vector and Tensor Calculus. 



  •      Change

      Many problems lead naturally to relationships between a quantity and its rate of change, and these are studied as differential equations.

     Why do people learn Maths?
      We study Maths because it teaches us how to think in various situations. It provides us with a method of solving a whole host of life’s problems away from the classroom. Math is radical! 
     
     The following are some of the conditions where people struggle in the life as the knowledge of Maths is poor.
·         Deciding where is best to go for your holidays
·         How big a finance you can afford, which new car should you buy and what type of vehicle financing is available?
·         Should you take that new job?

     These problems may not become visible to have anything to do with the Maths you study at school. But they do. To come up with solutions for the above problems these require planning, logical thinking, experimentation, evaluating and testing to make sure that the decision you have reached is the best one. These skills are needed and developed when studying Maths. The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.

      Question:  A tower casting a shadow across the ground, and given some information about the length of the shadow and the angle of the sun, you have to work out the height of the tower. Sounds like fun, hey?

     Mathematics as a human endeavor!

      Answer:  Simply can get through Trigonometry. So you will be drawing right-angled triangle. Next you must decide what formula you need to use and what calculations you need to do. This requires skills like multiplying, dividing, re-arranging formulae, calculator skills, and rounding.

      IMPORTANT: When you have taken the answer, you must check it b thinking whether is this makes sense by putting it back into the context of the question. Is this height correct if not why? So you may have made a mistake, so you have go back and look through your working to solve it.
     
     You have take pleasure in the life bit in learning Maths. Get up! Think deeply! Maths is Funny! Make the Easiest subject as Maths.
     
      Practicing doing Maths trains you up to be an expert problem solver, and if you can solve life’s many problems, then you will be doing alright. Mathematics have its own importance in the field of development and growth of human being and its surroundings.

    How to Enjoy Learning Maths ?
    To make Maths as an interest subject same as other subjects the below ways will help yourself enjoy learning maths.
    1.      Know what math really is. 
         Math isn’t about memorizing formulas. It’s about problem-solving, deducing truth, and exploring the concepts of change, quantity and structure.

    2.      Learn to apply math.
         As I said before, Math is all about problem-solving and tries to make use of it! This is what makes math a creative subject as well as a logical. Classes generally teach students the formulas and few examples of how they can be applied.
    
     * But to make Maths more interesting started with a real-world problem that requires math and worked backwards, finding the formulas that you would need. I made Maths interesting like this. So you all too try this.

   3.      Relate math to other subjects.
       Math relates to art, business, science, IT etc. If you’re interested in any of these, please try to use Maths to solve the problems same way you apply.

    4.      Surround yourself with Math fanatic. 
         When you sit with friends in a Maths class you rarely talk to each other about math. But when you are in other classes the teacher too can’t stop your chat isn’t it?
     I personally love Maths Companion !! I started Maths from Grade 1 but I made Maths interesting from Grade 7/8. You will have a question why is that? It’s because of the teachers taught Maths to me were weird. In Grade 9 when I get the Maths marks I was so worried and I thought how to make good grades in future. Afterwards my mother started teaching Maths by making it more interesting and she asked to make the same sum 7, 8 times. And also I brainstormed Maths lessons every day. After doing my O/L I got “A” Pass for Maths when I go to net to see the results I saw that have a “A” pass. But I couldn’t belive for that. Why is that? Because in the earlier day I was weak in Maths but today I am proud of myself about Maths. And I express my gratitude to my mother who taught Maths to me.  Math was my favorite subject at school and university!

Green Economy 2012


Welcome to joining with celebration of the World Environment Day on 5 June, 2012.  “The 2012 theme for World Environment Day is Green Economy: Does it include you?”

The theme mainly focal point on the Green Economy; this is where people close their minds because they stumble on this concept of Green Economy a little complex. This highlights that the Green Economy as an essential rethink to the way we do business, if we are to create a brighter future.

The Green Economy is defined by UN Environment Program as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. The green economy reduces carbon emissions and pollution, enhances energy and resource efficiency, and prevents the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Activities include street rallies and parades, as well as concerts, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. It is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5. In this significant year for the environment and sustainable development, the world leaders will once again meet at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development twenty years after the historic Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, 1992.

Dubbed Rio+20, one of the main themes of this Summit is “a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication”. But more importantly, the theme emphasize the fact that ‘you’ are an important element to its success and invites you to evaluate whether the steps being taken by the government, private sector, civil society and community in your area ‘include you.’ 

Celebrating World Environment Day is about the inspirational power of individual actions that collectively become an exponential force for positive change.  World Environment Day celebrations have in the past included caring for the earth and water, the ozone layer, climate change etc. World Environment Day is celebrated around the world in many ways, including street gathering, bicycle parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more.



Why celebrate World Environment Day?

When we notice the negative special effects of climate change and environmental dreadful conditions, it is easy to blame others - governments for not prioritizing environmental policy; corporate organizations for raising greenhouse gas release and individuals for not taking action. But those who are blaming have neglected their valuable responsibility to care the environment. World Environment Day however is a day we put aside our differences and instead celebrate the achievements we've made towards protecting the environment. By celebrating World Environment Day, we remind ourselves and others of the importance of caring for our environment. If you start protecting the environment it’s helpful to the future generation as well to live energetically with joyful minds.




The Green Economy touches almost every aspect of our lives and concerns our development. For example, it is about energy, green jobs, green policies, green buildings, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, tourism, transport, waste management, water efficiency etc.

Rising population and reduce resources have fake serious threats to our habitat, water, forests, wildlife, life and more. Climate change is another occurrence among the most threatened countries.




Intend of the day is to:
Give a human face to environmental issues.
Empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.
Promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.
World Environment Day is similar to Earth Day. But keep in mind that both are not the same but the concept is bit differs. Now let’s look at the past few years’ themes to the world environment day.

Theme 2011: Forests-Nature at Your Service

This covers 1/3 of the earth’s land accumulation, performing imperative functions and services around the world which make our planet alive with possibilities. While c\moving to the detailed view people depend on forests for their livelihoods. They play a key role in our fight against climate change, releasing oxygen into the atmosphere while storing carbon dioxide.

Theme 2010: Many Species. One Planet. One Future
It celebrated the variety of life on Earth as part of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity. Thousands of activities were organized worldwide, with beach clean-ups, concerts, exhibits, film festivals, community events.

Theme 2009: Your Planet Needs You – Unite to Combat Climate Change.

It mirrors the necessity for nations to agree on a new deal at the key climate in Copenhagen and the links with overcoming poverty and improved management of forests.
According to the UNEP Green Economy resulted in improved human comfort and social justice, while significantly reducing environmental threats.In addition to 2012 being an important date in the history of World Environment Day, it is also the 20thanniversary of the first Earth Summit that was held in Rio in 1992. It is estimated that demand for natural resources has doubled since 1996 and that it now takes a year and a half to restore the renewable resources that humans use in one year. The forecast is that by 2030 it will take the equal of two planets to meet resource demand.
"Green economics" is defined as any theory of economics by which an economy is considered to be component of the ecosystem in which it resides. A holistic approach to the subject is typical with any number of other subjects, depending on the particular theorist. 
Karl Burkart defines a green economy as based on six main sectors.
§  Renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, marine including wave)
§  Green buildings (green retrofits for energy and water efficiency, green products)
§  Clean transportation (alternative fuels, hybrid and electric vehicle, carpooling programs)
§  Water management (Water retrieval, rainwater systems)
§   Waste management (recycling, sustainable packaging)
§  Land management (natural agriculture, urban forestry, reforestation)

Significance of Poson full moon Poya day


Arrival of  Arahat Mahinda endowed Buddhists with great teaching of wisdom, non-violence
The meeting with King Devanampiyatissa at the mango grove of Ambastale in Mihintale is one of the momentous events in the history of Sri Lanka. This year, Buddhists commemorate 2320 Poson Festival.
On this Poson day I wish Buddhists in all over the world to practice good qualities while commemoration of the arrival of Mihindu Maha Rahathan and establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Blessings of the Noble Triple Gem!!!
Mihintale, the ancient royal rock; Arahat  Mahinda perched the first sermon to the King Devanampiyathissawho was the ruler for Anuradhapura. Long queues of devotees clad in pure white climb the steps leading to the top of Mihintale rock and the temple and then to the dagobas that lie adorn the hillocks. Some devotees climb to the summit of the rock where Arahat Mahinda delivered his initial dialogues.
The King Devanampiyatissa was hunting a deer when Mahinda thero appeared to him in mango grove and threw a question about a mango tree and having answered the question, he had apparently agreed to follow the teachings of Buddha and declared it as the State Religion. This is the birth of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
Poson Poya is celebrated annually with great commitment throughout the island. Mahinda Thero first put his foot to preach the word of Lord Buddha and therefore Mihinthalaya is called the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. With the establishment of Bhikku Sasanaya all other elements of a cultured society began to appear with the art of writing, art, architecture, religious rituals in song and dance forms, literature.

Many religious activities are organized during the poson period in Sri Lanka such as Sil campaigns, Bodhi Poojas, Dansalas, Poson devotional songs, Poson pandols and lanterns. Lot of Poson pandols and Poson Lanterns are making in Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Thanthirimale.

End of the Level C 2nd semester Happy Hours

I hope this is the end of the semester where students in authors batch need to rest in order to ease the stress, student group will be meeting for an end of the year Happy Hour. College parenting in the end of the semester id difficult as students is stressed and pressure is occurred due to the world load.  Although we feel helpless, parents can be helpful and supportive in many ways. The stress that students feel is very real and overwhelming. Students recognize that they may have procrastinated on some projects more than they thought. Some worry about the deadlines, final exams, presentations.
More importantly, I would like to wish everyone good luck on final presentations that you will be having during the next week. I do want to encourage everyone to fully utilize the holidays in these days for the preparation of the presentations while you enjoy the life. It’s great to have free food, drink, and be in a productive study environment. Some class councils are also doing some cool things, so look for those as well. Also those who are joining to the 2nd year I hope you have a great experience where you need to work hard to achieve success. All can go anywhere to relax the mind for a couple months. Now time off from university to refresh the mind. We all are entering to the real world to gain work experience by performing in internships, careers.
I spent my time advanced than foundation in APIIT with different types of friends, lecturers. Also joined many new friends to me and I also joined to new friends and spent the days happily while doing academic activities.  Have a good vacation everyone!!!
