What are some of the other dangerous chemicals?

Some other chemicals that cause air pollution and are bad for the environment and people.
1.      Ozone- Ozone is produced when other pollution chemicals combine.  It is the basic element of smog.  It causes many different kinds of health issues dealing with the lungs.  It can damage plants and limit sight.  It can also cause a lot of property damage.

2.      VOC’s (volatile organic compounds, smog formers) - VOC’s are let into the air when fuel is burned. This chemical can cause cancer.  It can also harm plants.

3.      NOx (nitrogen dioxide) - This chemical forms smog.  It is also formed by burning sources of energy, like gas, coal, and oil, and by cars. This chemical causes problems in the respiratory system.  It causes acid rain, and it can damage trees.  This chemical can eat away buildings and statues.

4.      CO (carbon monoxide) - The source of this chemical is burning sources of energy.  It causes blood vessel problems and respiratory failures.

5.      PM-10 (particulate matter) - The source of this chemical is plowing and burning down fields.  It can cause death and lung damage.  It can make it hard for people to breathe.  The smoke, soot, ash, and dust formed by this chemical can make many cities dirty.

6.      Sulfur Dioxide- This chemical is produced by making paper and metals.  This chemical can cause permanent lung damage.  It can cause acid rain which kills trees and damages building and statues.

7.      Lead- This chemical is in paint, leaded gasoline, smelters, and in lead storage batteries.  It can cause many brain and nerve damages and digestive problems.
Kid can help stop global warming, too!!
Although adults do many things to help stop global warming, kids can do just as much.  Kids can’t do hard things like making a law, but we can do easier things like not watching as much TV.  You can listen to your parents when they say, turn off your lights or go play outside.  Listening to them and actually trying to help can help you, your environment, and the world.
I'm heartened by the growing awareness of global warming among important communities and organizations in our nation.

What is the government doing to stop global warming?

The government is doing many things to be of assistance to stop global warming. The government made a Law called The Clean Air Act so there is less air pollution.
Global warming is making people get very bad infection that could make them disabled, very sick, and sometimes even die.  The Clean Air Act is making many companies change their products to decrease these problems
Part of the law says that you may not put a certain amount of pollutants in the air.  Hairspray and other products like foam cups had this problem.  Making and using these products let out too many unstable organic compounds, ozone-destroying chemicals (CFC) and related chemicals such as CO2 into the air.  Now, almost all of these products have a label on them telling people what this product can do to the environment and many people
By 2015 All Products Listed On The Clean Air Act Will Have This Label On Them!
Almost all of the other chemicals that could be harmful will have this label on them hopefully by 2015 time as well.
The Clean Air Act has also made car companies change some of the things inside of the cars.  Cars pollute a lot.  While cars make more than half of the world’s pollution, many other things that cars need to move and heat up formulate more pollution.  Some things that are inside of cars, buses, trucks, and motorcycles, like gasoline, pollute the air when the fuel is burned.  It comes out as a chemical and when mixed in the air, forms pollution.
Smog is a kind of pollution that you see in the form of a cloud.  If you have ever been to California you can see a lot of smog in some places.  Sometimes the smog gets so bad that you cannot see at all!  Smog forms when car exhaust, pollution from homes, and pollution from factories mixes in the air and has a chemical effect.  The sun’s heat and light add to the reaction. As smog is emission in Sri Lanka from vehicles to avoid this Drive Green is being introduced.
Cars, buses, and trucks are also responsible for over 50% of dangerous chemicals let into the air.  Some of these chemicals can cause cancer, birth defects, trouble breathing, brain and nerve damage, lung injures, and burning eyes.  Some of the pollutants are so harmful that they can even cause death.

What are people doing to stop global warming?

People are doing numerous things to make an effort to stop global warming.  One thing people are doing is carpoolingCarpooling is driving with someone to a place that you are both going to.  This minimizes the amount of greenhouse gases put into the air by a car.
Another thing that people are doing is being more careful about leaving things turned on like the television, computer, and the lights.   A lot of people are taking time away from the television, and instead, they are spending more time outdoors.  This helps our planet out a lot.
At the present moment, more people are riding in pubic passenger service busses, walking to school and riding their bikes to lower the amount of greenhouse gases in the air.  Planting trees more and more and recycling the used items also helps to reduce the global warming.  If you recycle, less rubbish goes to the dump, and less trash gets burned.  As a result, there are fewer greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere.
Watch what you buy.  Many things, such as hairspray and deodorant, now are made to have less of an impact on the atmosphere.  Less greenhouse gasses will rise into the air, and global warming will slow down.
Global warming is not a conqueror to kneel before - but a challenge to rise to. A challenge we must rise to.

What factors evolve in Global Warming?

When we throw the garbage away, that garbage fills the lands as well as water.  Landfills are those big hills that you go by on an expressway that stink. In the past in 120 routes there were hills of garbage where people even cannot breathe due to the bad smell of that. Why people suffer? As they put the other innocent people suffer and feel sorry. They are full of garbage.  The garbage is then sometimes burned.  This sends a huge amount of greenhouse gasses into the air and makes global warming worse. There is no way without burning the garbage. But it’s bringing effects to the world like currently by rising Global Warming.
Another thing that makes global warming worse is when people cut down trees. People those who cut trees do not have a keen to the environment or even to the live of other objects. That’s why they are cutting the trees. Trees and other plants collect carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a greenhouse gas.
Carbon dioxide is the air that our body lets out when we breathe. With fewer trees, it is harder for people to breathe because there is more CO2 in the air, and we don’t breathe CO2, we breathe oxygen.  Plants collect the CO2 that we breathe out, and they give back oxygen that we breathe in.
With fewer trees and other plants such as algae, there is less air for us, and more greenhouse gases are sent into the air. This means that it is very important to protect our trees to stop the greenhouse effect, and also so we can breathe and live. Therefore we must advice the people who cut down the trees to stop that and to save the lives and to protect the natural beauty and reduce greenhouse effects.
Greenhouse gas, CO2, collects light and heat and makes the earth warmer.  The heat and light from the sun is produced in the center of the sun.   The soiled yellow color on outside is the surface.  The light and dark yellow colored area is the convection zone.  The orange colored area is the radioactive zone, and the red colored area is the core.  The scribble lines represent radiant energy. This layer is called the core.  Just like a core of an apple, it is in the middle.
Here there is a very high temperature, about 27,000,000F.  This heat runs away out of this layer to the next layer, the radioactive zone. This layer is cooler, about 4,500,000F.   Gradually, the heat and light will pass through the convection zone at a temperature of around 2,000,000F.
When it gets to the surface, the temperature is about 10,000F. Finally, the heat and light is sent into space.  This is called radiant energy.  The radiant energy reaches the earth’s atmosphere.
Thus of this process we get light and heat.  When you pollute, you send chemicals into the air that destroy our atmosphere, so more heat and light cannot escape from the earth’s atmosphere. As the knowledge has developed, a much more critical job for researchers and scientists has evolved into explaining and educating policy makers and the public to the risks of global warming and the possible consequences of action or of no action.

How to bring to an end of polluting the Air?

In my opinion turning on a light is fine when the surrounding is darker. But some do this in the day time also as a habit of them. But this is not good and it’s polluting the air much more than turning light at night. Also if people use lights when only they need then according to the present countries raise of price the cents paying for the light or electricity can be saved and can use this for future.
Television is a gift by John Logy Bayed and people watch TV or listen to stereo when they feel alone or sleepy. But today this is a source where child addicted than chatting websites. Why? Because this is advertisement which attract the children to them and they trouble the parents saying I need this and this. So there is a responsibility of parents taken to stop addicting for TV and also community must reducing television as its polluting the air. Also the students mostly are with the headset of the mobile why? Because they are listening to the music which gives them relax to the mind and give interest. Some can study while the stereo is playing. This is a source of pollution which causes pollution of air. A great advice from the author is to taking time away from the television, or radio and spending more time in the open air.  This helps us out a lot.
In line with the modern technology people are with the new types of expertise. Washing machine is used to wash the clothes and to dry them too. And some where they don’t have enough money to buy they wash the clothes with the help of the hands. This is a good exercise. But if you can do this without using the washing machine it’s better to build a healthy body. And we still do this pattern. After washing we put the cloths to dry in the environment on rocks, tree or any other place. We achieve the results soon if the sun is there which heats the clothes. But it’s again a danger. So we must reduce this and find step to overcome these things.
I think this is a very familiar scenario for all of you, riding in a car or a vehicle. When we are riding the bad air is emissions to the atmosphere and people suffer from different diseases. To conclude this as well as the pollution of air the government has taken a best action. Can you remember this? Wait a min and think…
The Drive Green is doing this. This means they are checking the air of the vehicle and giving a report whether it’s good to travel or not means pass or fail. Based on this people can ride the vehicles. And this report is essential when licensing a vehicle. This is good accomplishment to bring to an end of polluting the Air in Sri Lanka. Aslo now most of the media speaks about the topic Carpooling. This is used to reduce polluting the air by releasing variour types of bad air to breathe and to the environment pollution.   This minimizes the amount of greenhouse gases put into the air by a car. Carpooling is driving with someone to a place that you both are going together.
Heating a meal in the microwave is also makes the life easy for us but again brings the effects to us as well to the environment. So with these things what we should do. The only thing we can do is to reduce the usage and go on researching to overcome the effects raising the pollution of air.

What causes global warming?

Many things cause global warming.  Electrical pollution causes global warming.  Electricity causes pollution in many modes, some not as good as than others.  In most cases, fossil fuels are flamed to generate electricity.  Fossil fuels are made of dead plants and animals.  Some examples of fossil fuels are oil and petroleum.  Many pollutants such as chemicals that pollute the air, water, and land are sent into the air when fossil fuels are burned.  Some of these chemicals are called greenhouse gasses.
We utilize these sources of power much in excess of the sources that give off less pollution. Petroleum is used mostly in the world via people for the activities like transportation, production of electricity and making many additional things.  Although this source of energy gives off a lot of pollution, it is used for 38% of the United States’ energy.
Some other examples of using energy and polluting the air are turning on a light, watching Television, listening to a stereo, washing or drying clothes, using a hair dryer, riding in a car, heating a meal in the microwave, using an air conditioner, playing a video game, using a dish washer. These things are doing by the man in the routine life as these are needed to make the life easy and quicker.
When you do these things, you are causing more greenhouse gasses to be sent into the air.  Greenhouse gasses are sent into the air because of producing the electricity and you use to do these things which cause pollution.
Think on a 50-year scale, which is a much more natural time-scale for global warming. The US is right now spending about 200 million dollars annually on research into renewable energy.
If you think of how many times a day you do these things, it’s a large amount of time.  You even have to add in how many other people do these things!  That turns out to be a lot of pollutants going into the air on a day because of people who like us using electricity. In order to overcome the pollution as well as energy the best is to use a least amount of electricity.

What is global warming doing to the environment?

Global warming is affecting many countries in the world.  The major cause is that the rise of the level of water in the sea when the sea rises, the water covers many low land islands such as Maldives. Can you remember this situation which was in the highlights in last few years? This is a big problem for many of the plants, animals, and people on islands.
The water covers the plants and some of them to die.  When they die the animals lose a source of food, along with their environment.  Although animals have an ability to adapt to what happens in the surroundings they may die.  When the plants and animals die, people lose two sources of food, plant and animal food.  They may also lose their homes.  As a result, they would also have to leave the area or die.  This would be called a break in the food chain, or a chain reaction, one thing happening that leads to another and so on.
Can you remember that you learnt the food chain for Biology at school and there the above mentioned details we learnt? So this is the start view of Global Warming.
The oceans are affected by global warming in other ways, as well.  Many things that are happening to the ocean are linked to global warming.  The reasons are warm water; caused from global warming is harming and killing algae in the ocean.
·         Algae are a producer that you can see floating on the top of the water.  (Algae are a producer of that makes food for other animals through photosynthesis, like grass.)
·         These floating green algae are food to many consumers in the ocean.  (Consumer is something that eats the producers.)
One kind of a consumer is small fish.  There are many others like crabs, some whales, and many other animals.  Fewer algae are a problem because there is less food for us and many animals in the sea.
But today the Algae are in large amount and the fish of the sea has less Oxygen to use. Therefore the fish shooting for the fish net is higher than previous days. Because of this, the fish comes up to get Oxygen. This is a forecast of Global Warming like that we can imagine.
Global warming is doing many things to people as well as animals and plants.  It is killing algae, but it is also destroying many huge forests.
The pollution that causes global warming is linked to acid rain.  Acid rain gradually destroys almost everything it touches.
Global warming is also causing many more fires that wipe out whole forests. This happens because global warming can make the earth very hot.  In forests, some plants and trees leaves can be so dry that they catch on fire.

Have many advantages in the fight against global warming, but time is not one of them

Instead of casually debating the particular extent of global warming or specific timeline of global warming, we need to deal with the central facts of rising temperatures, rising waters, and all the endless troubles that global warming will bring.
We stand warned by serious and credible scientists across the world that time is short and the dangers are great. The most relevant query now is whether our own government is equal to the challenge.
What are greenhouse gasses?
Greenhouse gasses are gasses are in the earth’s atmospheres that accumulate heat and light from the sun.  With too many greenhouse gasses in the air, the earth’s atmosphere will trap too much heat and the earth will get too hot.  As a result people, animals, and plants would die because the heat would be too strong.
Over the last three decades of the 20th century, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and population growth were the main drivers of increases in greenhouse gas releases. Due to the burning of fossil fuels and land-use change Co2 emissions are increasing to different regions.
Future emission levels of greenhouse gases have been estimated depending upon uncertain economic, sociological, technological, and natural developments ongoing in the world.  Fossil fuel treasuries are rich, and will not limit carbon emissions in the 21st century.
The popular media and the public often with the huge puzzle entitled as Global Warming with ozone reduction. Although there are a few areas of linkage, the relationship between the two is not strong. Reduced stratospheric ozone has a trivial cooling control on surface temperatures, while increased troposphere ozone has a larger warming effect.
A disenchantment I would raise at last is if you look at the sympathetic of climate change by scientists - let's be charitable 95% of scientists say we understand the process and we are convinced there is global warming. The media reports this situation as 50-50 because they are always in the opposite side and they need to show their opposing characteristics. That's good, but I'm disappointed with the intention of the media as they do not reveal that there is a 95-5 percent discussion. It sounds like its 50-50. The public reads this and they can't make up their mind typically.

The global climate which we are facing is crisis and deepening

Occasionally the temperature can change in a way that rally round us.  The greenhouse effect makes the earth suitable for people to live on.  Exclusive of it, the earth would be freezing or on the other hand it would be burning hot.
It would be freezing at night because the sun would be down.  We would not acquire the sun’s heat and light, to make the night to some extent warm.  During the day, especially during the summer, it would be burning as the sun would be up with no atmosphere to filter it, so people, plants, and animals would be exposed to all the light and heat.
While the greenhouse effect makes the earth gifted to cover people living on it, if there gets to be too many gases, the earth can get curiously warmer and many flora and fauna and populace will depart this life.  They would die because there would be a lesser amount of food.  This would occur because the plants would not be proficient to obtain the heat.
This would origin us to have less food to consume. But it would as well bind the provisions that animals have.  With less food like grass for the animals like cows with the purpose of that we require to survive we would even have less food.  Gradually, people, plants, and animals would all die of hunger.
Human movement since the Industrial Revolution has increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the air, leading to increased radioactive compelling from CO2, methane, troposphere ozone, CFC and nitrous oxide.
The deliberations of CO2 and methane have increased by 36% and 148% respectively. These levels are greatly important than at any time prior to. Also the reliable data has been extracted from ice cores. Less direct geological evidence indicates that CO2 values higher than last few years ago. Fuel burning has produced about three-quarters of the increase in CO2 from human activity over the earlier period of 20 years. The rest of this increase is caused mostly by changes in land-use, particularly deforestation.

Preservation of our environment is not a liberal or conservative challenge

The react to global warming is in the elimination of private property and production for human need. A socialist world would place a huge priority on alternative energy sources. This is what ecologically-minded socialists have been exploring for quite some time now.
Global warming is when the earth heats up.  It ensues when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane) catch heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature.  This hurts many people, animals, and plants.  Many cannot take the change, so they breathe the last breath.
What is the greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect is when the temperature increases because the sun’s heat and light is trapped in the earth’s environment.  This is like when heat is trapped in a car. On a very hot day, the car gets hotter when it is out in the parking lot.  This is because the heat and light from the sun can get into the car, by going through the windows, but it can’t get back out.  This is what the greenhouse effect does to the earth.  The heat and light can get through the atmosphere, but it can’t get out.  As a result, the temperature rises.
The greenhouse effect is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by gases in the atmosphere warm a planet's lower atmosphere and surface. Joseph Fourier in 1824 proposed this situation and first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896.
The scribble lines coming from the sun are visible light and the lines and arrows inside the car are infrared light. The sun’s heat can gain entry to the car through the windows but is then trapped.  This makes whatever the place might be an orangery, a car, a building or the earth’s atmosphere, hotter.
Obviously, naturally taking place of greenhouse gases have a mean warming effect of about 33 °C.
Greenhouse Gas                                 Cause quantity
Water vapor                            -           36–70 %
Carbon dioxide (CO2)             -           9–26 %
Methane (CH4)                        -           4–9 %
Ozone (O3)                              -           3–7 %
Clouds also affect the radiation balance through cloud forcings similar to greenhouse gases.

Actions to be taken to stop wasting time

Stop wasting time online!
I’m sure that you are now able to identify all of your most dangerous time wasters, so that it’s time to take things to the next level. Grab a piece of paper and write each and every one of them down. Now take it and place it somewhere where it’s visible, preferably right next to your computer.

As a result, forgetting about the challenge will simply be impossible.

What is the challenge?
No, eliminating these websites from your daily routine right from the start is not a productive approach.
You don’t have to drop a certain habit because I said so or because someone else said so. You should only drop it if you are convinced that it is the best decision for you, you should only drop it after you understand how dangerous it can be.
As a result, after the 7 days challenge is over, you will most likely want to get rid of most time wasters altogether, because you understand just how useless they are and, most importantly, you understand that yes, you can live without them.

But since, as previously stated, eliminating them altogether is not the most productive approach, here’s the attitude I’d recommend during these 7 days.

30 minutes, not a second more!
This 7 day challenge is meant to help you understand that yes, you can live without certain time wasters. On a subconscious level, you are most likely well aware of the fact that the websites in question are important time wasters but, after experiencing everything first-hand, you will be able to finally take action.
After these 7 days are over, you should divide the websites you have written down on that piece of paper into two categories: time wasters and potential time waster.

A time waster is a website which does not deserve your attention and never will, while a potential time waster is a website which can provide value, as long as you don’t spend more time than necessary on it.
During this challenge, you should make a commitment to yourself: never spend more than 30 minutes per day on the websites you have written down on the piece of paper in question and I’m talking about the grand total here.
And, you've guessed it: since you only have 30 minutes per day at your disposal, you will have to use them wisely. You will understand that you are better off spending less time on YouTube and more time on Digg and on the forum, and that definitely means that you’re making progress.
You will no longer waste time on useless information and will, instead, only stick with what is worth your time, and will gradually eliminate time wasters from your daily surfing routine.

I've completed the challenge, now what?
First of all, congratulations are in order ! Now that you have successfully completed the 7 day challenge, you are automatically a winner as far as self-confidence is concerned. You've made a promise to yourself and have kept it, you definitely deserve credit for that.
As far as the change you've implemented is concerned (in this case, not wasting time online), you basically have an important decision to make: if you are satisfied with the results, you can move on to a 21-day challenge (and, later on, 63-day challenges), as described here and if not, you can simply drop the challenge, knowing that you have tried your best but that things are simply not working out with this one.
If you choose to continue an move on to the 21-day challenge, you will most likely want to modify your initial list and remove the websites you have chosen to no longer follow (YouTube, for example). This way, you will gradually end up only spending time on potential timewasters and making the most out of each minute (in other words, you won’t let potential timewasters turn into timewasters and will, instead, maximize results and only spend time on them as long as it is worth it and as long as they provide value), this is definitely a challenge which can and will change your lifestyle for the better.
When to start? Now! Not on Monday, not next month but now. Grab a piece of paper, identify timewasters and get started right away. If you do your job right, you will definitely be congratulating yourself for your decision down the road. Are you up for the challenge?

How to stop wasting time online?

Identify time wasters
If you are interested in getting rid of this dangerous habit, the first thing you need to do is identify the resources you waste time on. Each person has different surfing habits, so that speaking in general terms is simply impossible. One person may waste a lot of time by following a certain website or a chat, while other party may not even be interested in that.

That being stated, there are two types of resources I would like to refer to, as a lot of people make the mistake of getting carried away and spending far too much time on them. As a result, they can and will turn into important time wasters and I will find ways to reduce time wasting in chat.

Forums and chat rooms
Can forums be a great source of information. Of course they can, but they can just as easily turn into extremely dangerous time wasters  When browsing through what forums have to offer information, you have more than a few threads to choose from, and the more popular the forum is, the more information you will have at your disposal.
And that’s precisely the problem: you have to understand that, at a certain point, too much is too much. There is nothing wrong with reading a thread or two you find interesting, as looking into what other people have to say regarding a certain topic never hurts.
But there are some s dangerous links where people send with threads which don’t actually provide value as well. From post to post and from thread to thread, you can end up wasting countless hours, only to realize that you haven’t actually gained anything in terms of useful information.
The same way, there’s nothing wrong with chatting with your online contacts as long as you don’t go overboard and spend the entire day on all sorts of instant messengers, which distract you from tasks which actually deserve your attention. Aside from forums and chat rooms, you can also waste a lot of time.
Social media websites
Social media websites can prove to be serious time wasters  From websites such as Digg to YouTube, there are more than a few tempting “opportunities” to waste time, so that being careful is definitely a must.

First of all, websites such as Digg are extremely dangerous since, just as with forms, you have a lot of content at your disposal. While there is nothing wrong with articles which help you gain valuable information, reading about that person is out of the question. It’s very easy to get distracted when following websites such as Digg, always understand that and act accordingly.

The same way, YouTube and similar websites are literally filled with useless and not even mildly entertaining content, which will make you wonder why on Earth you just spent valuable time watching a certain video.

Now that you have a clear idea as to what exactly a time waster represents, I challenge you. And i never watch you tube movies in the time of studies.I only see video which is needed for my studies. You may wonder why is this and who is this girl who rarely goes to You tube. But i  trying to stop wasting time.

According to my research conducted illustrates that social media websites wasted time and became most popular among adults as well as kids nowadays. The following statistics are representing that.

1) Facebook
Global Alexa Traffic Rank: 2
US Alexa Traffic Rank: 2

2) YouTube
Global Alexa Traffic Rank:
US Alexa Traffic Rank: 3

3) Blogger
Global Alexa Traffic Rank: 8
US Alexa Traffic Rank: 9

4) TwitterGlobal Alexa Traffic Rank: 10
US Alexa Traffic Rank: 8

5) WordPress
Global Alexa Traffic Rank: 19
US Alexa Traffic Rank: 21

6) LinkedIn
Global Alexa Traffic Rank: 20
US Alexa Traffic Rank: 14

Facebook has once again topped the list as the most popular social networking website in the world-falling right behind Google as the 2nd most popular website on the planet! Facebook, You tube  and Blogger continue their pattern as the top three social networking sites of 2009 and 2010, while Myspace, on the other hand, is barely keeping up.

How today people spend time?? By Chatting ..

I have been observing some of  the bosses and other people who have proper work-life balance- and noticed is that people who have a strong purpose in life and are focused on their goals rarely spend a lot of time in chats or social networking sites like Facebook.
Nowadays, time is even a more precious commodity to me. To date, I have a number of blogs. I plan to grow even more sites. At the same time, I also hold a full time job in studying. Therefore, that leaves the bulk of my personal blogging time usually after studying hours, aside from fulfilling other personal obligations.
I genuinely enjoy building sites and blogging. I write my articles sincerely from my heart and it feels great to be able to utilize my knowledge and gift to benefit others. At the same time, I also value my day job- good boss, colleagues and working environment.
The only way to be able to do both well is to have sufficient mental energy- to be fresh during work day and yet have enough energy to manage my blogs after work.  Similar for you, find something that genuinely interest you and you feel you would  good, then develop it.

Take it from someone who has been there- years down the line, you and your chat friends would move to separate paths in life. What that is talked and shared on, will be forgotten by both parties. And the more matured you may regret for making better use of all those hundreds of productive hours.

Is chatting a waste of time?

You’d be surprised as to how much time a person usually wastes online. There are more than a few websites which make people waste countless hours in front of the computer screen daily without actually getting any work done. That’s why, my friend, I have a challenge for you: stop wasting time online for 7 days and see where you take it from there.

You will understand that staying informed is possible without investing countless valuable hours of your time day in and day out.
When we are younger, we used to spend hours just chatting on Gmail, Skype, Yahoo, MSN, Twitter chats with friends. We could only do it at home because at the time of university some lab sections have banned the access to all the chatting software and social networking sites.  That’s why the students are much more productive and focused- but my friends must admit, we were stressed too due to the job nature.

After a few years of being into chat, some realize that to me at least, it was a great time waster. Their concern is because chatting is very addictive- and before you know it, you may have spent hours typing away on your chat box. If you chat at work,  it eats into your productive time- and your year-end bonus’s probably at stake if your boss discover your chatting habits.
Even worse, if she finds out that you've been ranting your frustration about her to your chat friend. If at home, it distances relationships- after all, your chat friend knows more about your life than your sibling or your spouse. You neglect to do housework or pay the bills because of the addiction- and have a strained relationship with your mother because you think that she is asking you to shut down the PC.

You may not realize it now- but years down the line, you may regret spending time on chat when you could have spend time face-to-face, explore a second income stream,  learn a new skill, etc.

However, I do agree that chats and Skype have invaluable for loved ones staying in different countries to keep in touch.  Else, if it in the same country, we’ll just rather pick up the phone to call or email the person directly.

In life, it is important to prized our relationships with others- after all, someone who is everyone’s hello friend may have no true friends at all. Who can he turn to when he is feeling sad or lonely? It’s a horrible, terrible feeling when you are in need and the reality dawned on you that there is no one out there for you.

Therefore, instead of spending 2 hours a day on chats, investing just a fraction on your elderly parents would make their day.  Or just spend a little time to write an email or a snail mail to an old friend to keep in touch. At least you are not pressured to reply when the chat box blinks. You can reply at your own time. Or perhaps you can keep a record of your friend’s birthdays using Microsoft Outlook  and send them a short email or sms to wish them. These little gestures add up and usually means much more to people than ‘poking’ or playing online games via social network sites.
Many things can be done during those few hours while we’re chatting away ! Chatting endlessly, can yes, be a such a waste of time…..

Silence is golden for studying

Silence is golden. There might more wisdom in this saying than most people have guessed. In experiments, speaking raises blood pressure and listening lowers it. And it's not just because you're making sounds. Reading aloud alone does not raise blood pressure, but reading aloud to someone does.

The combination of music and study has long been a bone of contention between adults and children.
Parents and teachers alike maintain that silence is golden when learning. Youngsters insist that their favorite sounds help them concentrate.

Now a study shows the grown ups have been right all along. Psychologists in Florida tested how fast a group of students wrote essays with and without music in the background. They found that the sounds slowed progress down by an average of 60 words per hour. That demonstrates clearly that it is difficult to cope well with listening and writing simultaneously, said Dr Sarah Ransdell of Florida Atlantic University in Fort Lauderdale.

She also concluded it is a myth that instrumental music is less distracting than vocals. All types of music had the same effect, she said in today's New Scientist magazine. 'One's writing fluency is likely to be disrupted by both vocal and instrumental music,' she added.

However, those with some musical training tended to be less badly distracted although there was still a negative effect.

Professor Cary Cooper, a psychologist at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, said the research illustrated that the idea that music could help performance was wrong.
He added: 'Writing an essay is a complex cognitive task. You are retrieving information and sequencing it.

Living with the constant hum of background noise can seriously damage your health. The first research of its kind suggests that families living near busy roads or under flight paths could be suffering harmful effects, even if they are unaware of being irritated. Those in the noisier range tended to have raised blood pressure, heart rates and levels of stress hormones.

Leading students in weekly mindfulness meditation helps them learn to calm their emotions and focus their thoughts.

Is radio better than television?

Radio is a kind of "lifestyle support system," the authors wrote, which helps people feel better as they go about their days. Many respondents didn't realize how important radio was in their lives until they had participated in the exercise.

The two most common forms of advertising consist of radio and television. First off, let's talk about how radio spots can be an effective form of advertising.

Radio has many distinct advantages that a media buyer should take into consideration. Radio spots can be had on both local and national levels. This allows targeted marketing efforts to be coordinated. In other words, if you are advertising for a local company, you would be best off using local radio stations. Also, radio can be used in cooperation with other media efforts.

Many companies find success in using radio spots to correspond with television efforts. This guarantees that you are reaching as many people as possible, both while at home, and while in the car. Also, it should be remembered that people often listen to the radio while on their way to purchase new products.

So, if somebody is on their way to the car dealership to look at a new car, and hear a radio spot advertising for the newest luxury sport utility vehicle, the buyer would be more so inclined to check it out.

When used alone, or with another form of media, radio advertising can be most effective and a great way to maximize return on investment.

Now let's talk about advertising via television commercials.
To many companies who can afford it, this is the most effective way to reach potential clients.

Millions of people spend millions of hour's everyday watching television, including the commercials. Advertisers spend millions of dollars on a single 30 second spot. That alone shows that advertisers feel that television is the greatest way to reach the largest amount of the population, with the smallest amount of effort.

Like the radio, television spots are also available on both a national and local level. Advertisers are paying to be seen by everyone watching the game, thus the price increases greatly. On a more local level, companies can place spots on local access television stations. Again, if you are going for a more regional presence, local stations would more than likely be the way to go. It will save you time, and also ensure that you are in front of your most prized customers.

The biggest factor in determining which media to use, outside of who your audience is, would be money. It is much less expensive to run a 30 second local radio advertisement than running a 30 second television spot during the Super Bowl. All of these factors are taken into consideration by the buyer before making a decision.

Overall, both radio and television provide a great way to get your message out. The more research that is done before the buying, the better chance you will have of making the most of your hard-earned money. The next decision will be think about whether you want a 40 inch television or a 35 inch television.
