Bachelor's degree

A bachelor's degree is usually an university academic degree earned for an undergraduate course or major that generally lasts three years, but can range anywhere from three to four years depending on the level of education. Some instances the students have to do the foundation course which is 8 months or 1year if they are entering with O/L results. Although, if the student like to do that they can follow that to improve the knowledge and get in to the deeper step called degree.  In some exceptional cases, it may also be the name of a postgraduate degree, such as a bachelor of civil law, the bachelor of business IT, the bachelor of philosophy, degree.
During the rebirth, those who received a doctorate, upon passing their final examinations, were decorated with berried branches of bay, an ancient symbol of highest honor.

Recognized institutes of higher learning only are authorized to award degrees in Sri Lanka. Three years full-time bachelor's degree without an area of specialization is known as a general degree.

A degree with a specialization is known as a special degree and requires four years of study and more opening qualifications. A degree in medicine, an MBBS, requires a minimum of six years.
